Well...To
start, I didn't know if I was going to write in portuguese, english, french, germain,
spanish, italian or russian... But i'll try to do the english
version too. Let's see how it works.
I'm sorry if I do any mistakes, hein!
I
should have started the blog in April, when I did the test to enter Gobelins,
but you
know...
Flight tickets, visa, lugagges, maps, french classes and eating the last
delicious
things in Brazil...
I
keep thinking about the doubts I had before coming to Gobelins, so I'll start
writing about
the "application" process for the school.
In march I
subscribed for Animateur 3D, wich is a 1 year program dedicatd to 3D
character animation.
For more information, prices, dates, tests: Gobelins Website
The
idea of this program is to have a Demoreel with all types of animation
(realistic,
cartoon;
animals...).
The
"application" part is not so easy, specially for the ones who doesn't
speak french, like me. But thanks God Google Translator exists and, of course,
friends who speaks french!
I started private french classes in April (5 months
before the begging of classes at Gobelins) what, obviouslly, is n ot enough,
but it helped a lot. Nowadays I can understand around 60% of what the teachers
are saying, but... ok... ok. The classmates always helps me.
Well...
After the french, the most annoying part of the "application" is the
documentation.
The school asks for all the documents of your life, + Curriculum +
Demoreel
of 1 minute + Making of the demoreel + Apresentation video spoken in
french
AND english. But... It doesn't have to be a video full of effects, you just
need to
be
clear. They just want to know you.
After 2 weeks the list of
approveds was on the Gobelin's website! And... Voila! Buying flight tickets,
getting documentations ready and studying french... Two weeks later I needed to
be in Paris just to do the test. That's absurd! Just for the test!
But then; I had my first
french croissant, saw the Eiffel tour, walked by the Champs Elysée and thought
"Ok... It makes sense".
At the pratical test, they
gave us a "briefing" and we had 8 hours to do an animation.
They give you a rigged character (that looks like
Norman), and you can choose the software you prefer (Maya, 3D Max or XSI). In
the end you can do only a playbast in case you don't want to do a render.
That
day I was known as "the girl who lost everything" because I did the
blocking of the animation in the morning, we went out for lunch, and when we
came back... Maya destroyed my rig, and, of course, my animation was destroyed
with it.
Yes,
I saved many versions while I was doing the blocking, but none (I repeat: none)
of the files was working.
I
had to restart from the beggining, what was super exciting. In the end, I did a
luch better animation in 3 hours. Simpler, but more "polished".
C'est
la vie!
The
day after I had the interview. I was interviewed by 2 coordinators of Gobelins
and the coordinator of CITIA. It's a maximum 30 minutes interview, where you
talk about your studies, professional life, your goals and dreams. They ask you
to explain everything you did in your pratical test, how was the creative
process and which method you used.
One
thing I thought was super interesting was the personal questions like
"what do you think about living 1 year in France? is your family going to
miss you? What about your friends?"
Ok.
I admit. At that time I laughed... Living 1 year in France? Awsome!
Family
missing me? There's always Skype! Facetime!
Friends
lissing me? Facebook! Whatsapp!
Until
today they care about the students. They care about the interaction of the
students and what, maybe, we may need. So, we have help if we need.
Around
2 weeks later I got an e-mail from Gobelins (everything in french... Really... I was desesperated! I'm still desesperated) wich I don't really know if
they were inviting me to study at Gobelins or if they were just thanking me for
my interest in the school. HAHA
But yes... I was approved.
And
then... The most delicious part
started: more documentations.
I
did it. Got all my documentation for the Visa ready, all the documents for
schools, the nursery of the school, got all my injections against hepatitis, got all the bank information and
started the Visa Process.
I
followed all the steps on the website Campus France. But I advise getting this whole
process as quickly as possible because there are 2 "interviews".
So ... It takes a
while...
This
was the pre-France process. Whne you get here, there's much more to do. HAHAHA
I'll
continue another day...
Bisous!
=)
